Quick answer

At 44921 George Washington Blvd #140, Apex Ashburn runs age-grouped No-Gi BJJ, wrestling, Boxing, and Muay Thai, plus an all-ages judo class for members. Kids martial arts at Apex Ashburn are grouped by age and experience so each student gets an appropriate pace and training partners. Beginner Wrestling serves ages 4 to 13 and introduces stance, motion, takedowns, scrambles, and mat awareness from the ground up. Experienced wrestlers through middle school can move into Advanced Wrestling by coach invitation, and High School Wrestling serves ages 14 and older. No-Gi Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu runs as Kids classes for ages 6 to 9, Youth classes for ages 10 to 13, and Teen classes for ages 14 to 17. The program builds coordination, focus, confidence, and practical ground skills through technique and partner drilling. Boxing and Muay Thai use the same age bands for footwork, combinations, pads, and controlled contact. Teen classes prepare older students for adult-level training while keeping the room split by age and experience. Ashburn also has an all-ages judo class where parents and children can learn throws and safe falling together, although new-student judo trials are paused. Competition is available for students who want it, never required.

What to expect

Choose the student's age and preferred art in the booking flow, and it will route them to the matching trial lane. On arrival, the coach explains the room, introduces the day's skill, and pairs the student appropriately. Grappling classes use movement games, technique, partner drilling, and optional live rounds. Striking classes use stance, footwork, combinations, and pads, with contact controlled for the age group. Wrestling adds takedowns, sprawls, and situational rounds. Parents may watch from the viewing area. Athletic clothes and water are enough for a first class, and no experience is required. Coaches can move an experienced young wrestler into the advanced group, while teens who are new to BJJ begin in Teen BJJ Fundamentals. Judo requires a separate conversation because trials are currently paused.

Questions answered

Before you come in

How does Ashburn place children who are between wrestling levels?

A new wrestler ages 4 to 13 starts in Beginner Wrestling. If a child already has experience, the coach evaluates the fit and can invite that wrestler into Advanced Wrestling when ready.

Which Ashburn programs use the current Youth band?

The current Youth band is ages 10 to 13. Youth BJJ, Youth Muay Thai, and Youth Boxing use that band, while wrestling placement also considers prior experience.

Can Ashburn parents watch a child's first martial arts class?

Yes. Parents are welcome to watch from the viewing area while the child meets the coach, learns the class rhythm, and works with an appropriately matched partner.

Why is Ashburn judo shown if a child cannot book it as a trial?

The all-ages judo class remains on the member schedule, but new-student trials are paused. Families interested in it should contact the academy and can begin with a free BJJ or wrestling class meanwhile.
